NOTES:
- Nissan's domestic production in January was down a slight 0.1% from a year ago to 96,075 units, the first year-on-year decrease in two months. Overseas production in January jumped 24.7% to 108,467 units, marking the 18th consecutive year-on-year increase, with a 97.7% increase in Spain and 76.3% in Mexico. UK production rose 27.3%. As a result, Nissan's global production came to 204,542 units, up 11.7%, representing the 12th consecutive year-on-year increase.
- Nissan's domestic sales in January were 50,026 units, up a slight 0.1%, marking the second consecutive year-on-year increase. Sales were strong in January for such models as the new Bluebird Sylphy, the new X‑TRAIL, and the new Cima which were introduced to the Japanese market in August, 2000 onwards. Nissan's domestic market share was 19.6%, down 0.5 points from the level of January, 2000.
- Nissan's exports in January decreased 4.5% to 42,382 units, representing the fifth consecutive year-on-year decrease. This decrease was mainly due to the wind-down of demand for the Maxima in the U.S., and the Almera for the European market which was switched from exports from Japan to local production in the UK in early 2000. However, exports to Asia, Oceania, and Middle East markets in January rose, supported by the strong demand for the Sunny, Sentra, and Pulsar.
- Nissan's sales in Europe declined 5.6% with strong competition, especially in Germany and Spain. Sales in the U.S. (not DSR adjusted) declined by 2.8% as the U.S. market continued its slowdown. Sales in Mexico jumped by 12.4% and sales in Canada rose 32.1% for a 1.5% increase in North America.
