On April 22, 2002, the Renault-Nissan Alliance's first joint plant, the light commercial vehicles assembly unit - part of the Renault industrial complex at Sao Jose dos Pinhais, Parana, Brazil - will begin assembling the Nissan Frontier pickup, a full month ahead of schedule.
The Nissan Frontier pickup is the first Nissan vehicle to be assembled at a Renault plant, and the second to be assembled at the Curitiba LCV unit - the first being the Renault Master van - since production began in December 2001.
An estimated 7,000 vehicles will be assembled at Curitiba in 2002, with some 2,500 Renault Master vans and 4,500 Nissan Frontier pickups.
This new development firmly establishes Nissan as a Brazilian automaker.
