Nissan to Add New Bluebird to Expand Sedan Model Range in China

Auto China 2002

Beijing, June 5 - Nissan introduced the newest addition to the series of Bluebird sedan, known as lan-niao in the Chinese market.  Sales of the new Bluebird Flagship Model, unveiled at a preview of Auto China 2002 today, will start toward the end of July.  The Bluebird Flagship Model will be manufactured in China by Aeolus Automobile Co., Ltd. ("Fengshen"), which has produced the existing Bluebird - the Light Interior Version - under license for the past two years.

The new Bluebird offers finesse and state-of-the art amenities incorporating the best in digital information technology. Features include a digitized mirror display that can help the driver assess the space behind the car when backing up, and an in-dash video compact disc player.

"The Bluebird Flagship Model will feature what buyers expect in a true Nissan: sophisticated exterior styling, refined interior design and roomy luggage space," said Katsumi Nakamura, Senior Vice President and head of Nissan's China Business Office. "It will complement and build on the popularity of the existing Bluebird, which is owned by more than 25,000 people across China."

SVP Nakamura explained that the new Bluebird was created after Nissan decided to blend the larger Cefiro model's sophistication and luxury with a sedan that is more affordable by a wider segment of the Chinese public. More than 40,000 Cefiro have been sold in China since the model's introduction in 1995.

The Bluebird Flagship Model will be sold alongside the Bluebird Light Interior Version, the Cefiro and the smaller Sunny as part of a four-model sedan line-up in China.

All four models are on display on the Nissan stand at Auto China 2002.  To preview the range of Nissan models on display at Auto China 2002, click http://www.nissan.com.cn. The Nissan show microsite for Beijing is launched on the web today.
