Nissan to name its new mini commercial vehicle 'Clipper'

Nissan has decided to name its new mini-commercial vehicle model  "Clipper."

New Clipper

Old Clipper (1976 model)

The model will come in two body types, a truck and a van, and Nissan will make an official announcement in mid September for the start of sales in early October through all its dealers nationwide.

Origin of the Clipper model name:

"Clipper"  was used as the model name of Nissan's light commercial vehicle from September 1958 through December 1981* and it was widely popular among its customers as one of Nissan's commercial vehicle model names for a long time.

Nissan has decided to adopt this traditional name for its new mini-commercial vehicle model in the hope that it will positively enhance its presence in this segment in the years to come.

*Clipper was first launched on September 1958 as a model of Fuji Seimitsu Kogyo (later known as Prince Motor Company, which merged with Nissan in 1966.)

The name  "Clipper"  comes from an English word meaning  "a swift horse."
