Tokyo -- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced preliminary production, sales and export results for August.

Production

Nissan's global production in August totaled 226,664 units, up 1.1% compared with the same month last year.

Domestic production, however, fell 8.2% to 96,458 units amid lower output of the Presage minivan.

Overseas production rose 9.3% to 130,206 units. In the U.S., Nissan's output advanced 35.6% to 68,891 units, fueled by strong demand for the Altima sedan and the Titan full-size pickup truck. Production in Mexico, however, dropped 9.0% to 26,571 units.

In the U.K., production fell 28.2% to 15,094 units, but output in Spain increased 104.0% to 5,457 units.

Sales

Nissan's domestic registrations slid 11.6% in August to 41,530 units due mainly to slower sales of the March compact car and the Presage. The company's share of the Japanese registered car market fell 2.5 percentage points to 16.6%. Domestic sales, including mini-vehicles, fell 5.3% to 47,335 units. Nissan's share of that market fell 1.0 percentage point to 13.1%.

In the U.S., Nissan's total sales dropped 0.6% to 80,314 units. Nissan brand sales rose 1.8% to 69,029 units helped by strong sales of the Altima. But Infiniti sales fell 13.1% to 11,285 units due to slower sales of the G35 sports car (Skyline in Japan).

Nissan's sales in Canada in August totaled 5,389 units, down 7.3% compared with last year. Sales in Mexico rose 8.9% to 18,511 units.
