Shanghai (April 20, 2009) -Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. plans to showcase fourteen exciting vehicles under its Nissan and Infiniti line-ups at the 13th International Automobile Industry Exhibition in Pudong, Shanghai. The stars for Nissan at the show will be the new SYLPHY sedan, the NISSAN NUVU electric concept, the GT‑R supercar and NV200 compact van. Infiniti will star the FX50 luxury crossover.
The new NISSAN SYLPHY features significant upgrades and exterior changes. The interior also gets a make-over with a sleek black interior trim for a more dynamic feel. Safety features include side airbags and active headrest. The refreshed SYLPHY will now be available with a manual transmission for improved fuel economy and total cost of ownership.
Looking towards the future, the NISSAN NUVU electric concept car hints at the type of car that may arrive in the years to come. NUVU features a unique leaf-shaped solar panels and is fully zero-emission. It incorporates all organic, natural and recycled materials in its interior design. At just three meters in length, its diminutive stance belies a cleverly designed comfortable interior that offers ample headroom and legroom. Powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries, the NUVU can easily navigate crowded streets, making it an ideal mobility solution for the urban environment.
Motorsports enthusiasts will be delighted with the GT‑R making its first appearance in China. The NISSAN GT‑R has been lauded as one of the most accomplished and technologically advanced high performance cars ever built, and one of the fastest vehicles in the world too. It is indeed the first supercar for anyone, anytime, anywhere. A GT‑R cut-away will be on display to highlight the technological innovations employed in the supercar.
The all-new NV200 will also be introduced to Chinese customers, a compact van designed to meet the demands of a range of customers in terms of function and versatility. The van is a great value proposition with an adaptable interior, car-like comfort, class-leading load space and low operating costs. The NV200 will be locally built by 2010 and is positioned as one of the key products in the LCV expansion plans in China.
The strong Nissan line-up is complemented by the TEANA sedan, TIIDA sedan and hatchback, LIVINA series, QASHQAI compact crossover and X‑TRAIL SUV.
The Infiniti FX50 luxury crossover is set to impress with its bold styling and proportions. It features a newly developed 5.0-liter V8 engine, 7-speed automatic transmission, luxurious interior design, safety features and innovative technology. Visitors to the show can enjoy the full Infiniti line-up that includes the Infiniti G37 Coupe, M35 sedan and EX35 crossover.
The first quarter of 2009 has been going strong with sales totaling 144,603 units, up 9% over the same period last year. Annual sales is expected to reach 570,000 units bolstered by the strong portfolio of products from both brands - Nissan and Infiniti.
