Nissan Donates Vans to Assist Local Governments of Futaba District, Fukushima in Meeting Community Needs

YOKOHAMA, JAPAN (November 28, 2014) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. donated eight units of NV200 Vanette, multi-purpose compact commercial vans to eight town and village governments in Japan as part of continuing efforts to assist communities still recovering from the 2011 earthquake. The official handover of the vehicles for communities of Futaba in Fukushima Prefecture was made today at the Hirono town office.

Following the 2011 disaster, government operations in the towns and villages of Futaba district were disrupted and scattered throughout Fukushima and to other areas. Government workers had to relocate and, since, regularly travel long distances to deliver essential services to residents. The donated vehicles from Nissan will help workers better connect with various local government offices and residents. Nissan’s Iwaki Plant is located near the Futaba area.

"We have offered support for the earthquake disaster area with the hope that it will be reconstructed as soon as possible," said Noriko Ikari, general manager of Nissan CSR. "In the eight towns and villages of Futaba, many residents have been unable to return home and continue to face day-to-day challenges. We hope that our vehicles will help in meeting community needs and that we can further assist in the area where possible."

The 5-seater NV200 Vanette has a roomy and versatile interior which should provide the flexibility needed by the government workers to meet day-to-day needs in the communities. A popular model sold in more than 40 countries, NV200 Vanette has garnered multiple international awards and many loyal customers. Alpine Electronics, Inc. (Iwaki City, Fukushima) contributed eight navigation units for the vehicles.
