Autech Japan to Release Silvia Convertible

Tokyo – Autech Japan, Inc. today announced that it will release the new Silvia Convertible Varietta* in the domestic market on July 27.

The new Silvia Convertible has been developed around the concept of "a car transformable at will between a sports coupe and a fun-filled convertible complete with a host of comfort amenities for delightful driving enjoyment." With 2+2 interior packaging that seats four passengers comfortably and featuring the first fully opening power metal top on a domestic convertible, the Varietta uniquely blends exhilaration with comfort. Another notable feature is the world's first application of Morphoton(R) cloth to cover the main parts of the front seats. 

Following the display of the Silvia Convertible Varietta at the Nissan booth of the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show last year as a reference model, Nissan has received many requests from customers for the commercialization of this car. 

*The grade designation Varietta was coined from the Italian word "Varietà," meaning variation.

Overview of Silvia Convertible Varietta

1. The first fully opening power metal top on a domestic convertible
The Silvia Convertible Varietta comes with the first fully opening power metal top to be featured on a domestic convertible. Anyone can easily enjoy the pleasure of switching between a coupe and a convertible at will. When down, the top stows away completely in the trunk compartment to reveal the car's beautiful long deck proportions; when up, it transforms the car into a handsome coupe. Moreover, compared with a soft top, the metal top is superior in terms of noise and heat isolation and anti-theft protection.

The top raises and lowers in about 20 seconds, driven by an electric motor that is operated by an instrument panel switch.


2. 2+2 convertible interior packaging
For added convenience of use, the Silvia Convertible Varietta adopts 2+2 interior packaging with comfortable seating for four passengers. When used as a two-seater, the rear seat area can be utilized as luggage space for outstanding practical utility.

3. Featuring Morphoton“ cloth seats
The main portions of the front seats feature the world's first application of Morphoton(R) cloth^*1 that incorporates Morphotex(R)^*2 fiber in the seat fabric. This unique cloth adopts the color-producing principle of the iridescent wing scales of Morpho butterflies^*3. With this color-producing principle, the fiber produces color by the mechanism of light interference, which results in a pure, clear color. Another characteristic is that the hue varies depending on the viewing angle, because the degree of light interference changes.
