Datsun Undergoes Minor Model Change

Datsun 2WD DXL Single Cab Semi-long Body with 2.0-liter Gasoline Engine (equipped with optional features)

As part of this minor model change, the Datsun lineup has been substantially expanded. Besides the newly added 2WD Single Cab Long Body model and 2WD Double Cab model, which were not in the lineup previously, a King Cab model is now offered that combines a two-seater cabin, incorporating cargo space for outdoor goods or other items, with a large bed. Moreover, models fitted with the 2.4-liter gasoline engine are now available with an automatic transmission.

The gasoline engine selection has also been completely changed for a significant improvement in fuel economy, in addition to providing driving performance with ample power in reserve from the low to high vehicle speed ranges. The fuel tank capacity has also been increased from the previous 60 liters to 75 liters (excluding the 2WD Single Cab Semi-long Body model), thereby extending the driving range on a full tank of fuel.

The interior and exterior appearance has been further enhanced by expanding the application of a chrome-plated front bumper to all models and by fully reworking the instrument panel design with greater emphasis on functionality. A molded ceiling panel has also been adopted on all models. A choice of eight attractive body colors is offered, including the newly added Orange Pearl.
Moreover, practicality has been improved in a variety of ways. A one-touch driver's power window has been adopted as standard equipment on all models. This window features a mechanism that prevents fingers and arms from being caught during one-touch up operation by automatically reversing the direction and lowering the window. The King Cab model comes with two auxiliary seats that fold up toward the sides for storage when not needed.

In terms of environmental friendliness, the gasoline engine models comply with Japan's 1998 exhaust emission regulations and diesel engine models meet the 1997 regulations. In addition, the gasoline engine models also comply with the guidelines concerning the list of recommended specifications and materials for products with little environmental impact. Moreover, the 4WD Double Cab gasoline engine models with the 5-speed manual transmission also qualify for a reduction of the automobile acquisition tax as low fuel consumption vehicles under the revised tax code for FY 1999.

Various improvements have also been made in the area of safety equipment. All models are built with Nissan's high-strength Zone Body construction, come with a driver's airbag supplemental restraint system (SRS) as standard equipment and offer a front passenger's airbag SRS among other optional safety features.

Price Range and Sales Target
The new Datsun is priced in a range from 1,145,000 yen to 2,744,000 yen in the Tokyo area. Nissan projects a monthly sales volume of 500 units.
