Nissan Hypermini Wins "New Energy Grand Prize"
Tokyo - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced that the Hypermini captured "Agency of Natural Resources and Energy Director-General Prize (the new energy equipment/system category)" of the "Fiscal 1999 New Energy Grand Prize".
The "New Energy Grand Prize" is sponsored by the New Energy Foundation, an auxiliary organization of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. The prize, which is in its 4th year, aims to promote developing and expanding new energy equipment/systems.
The commendation system is divided into two categories - the new energy equipment/system category and new energy system application category. After the severe evaluation and investigation by the examination committee, the Minister of International Trade and Industry Prize, Agency of Natural Resources and Energy Director-General Prize, and New Energy Foundation Chairman Prize are given to the outstanding entries of each category. This time, no entry was eligible for the Minister of International Trade and Industry Prize (the new energy equipment/system category).
The reasons for Hypermini's winning the prize are:
- Ultra-small electric vehicle developed as an optimum urban commuter car.
- Superb driving performance by adopting lightweight, highly rigid body based on the aluminum spaceframe construction, a neodymium magnet synchronous traction motor and compact, lightweight, high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
- Promotion to familiarize by using Hypermini in two joint field trial projects.
The award-giving ceremony will be held at Tokyo Big Sight* on February 16, 2000.
