NOTES:

  1. Nissan's domestic production in July was down 8.7% to 123,936 units, representing the first year-on-year decrease in 4 months. However, overseas production in July jumped 48.4% to 103,870 units, marking the 12th consecutive year-on-year increase. Nissan's overseas production volume increased year-on-year at all of its four major overseas plants (US, Mexico, UK and Spain) last month. As a result, Nissan's worldwide production came to 227,806 units, up 10.7% from the previous year.

  2. Nissan's domestic sales in July were 67,246 units, down 18.6% from a year ago, representing the first decrease in 3 months. Sales continued firm in July for the Serena, however, total sales in Japan were lower than the high level of July sales last year due mainly to the wind-down of demand for the Wingroad and the Cedric/Gloria redesigned in May and June last year and that for the Expert newly launched in June 1999 and five other commercial vehicle models redesigned or facelifted in the same month of last year. Nissan's domestic market share was 18.2%, down 4.0 points from the level of July 1999.

  3. Nissan's exports in July declined by 2.4% to 60,126 units, marking the first year-on-year decrease in 4 months. This decrease was mainly due to the Almera for the European market, which was switched from exports from Japan to local production in the UK from earlier this year. However, exports to the Asian market marked a double digit increase from July 1999.
