Production, Domestic Sales, and Export Results
for December and the 1999 Calendar Year
TOKYO --- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its production, domestic sales, and export results for December and the 1999 calendar year.
Nissan’s domestic production in December totaled 102,703 units, down 16.0% from the previous year. This was the 13th consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. Domestic production in calendar year 1999 totaled 1,385,142 units, down 10.7% from the year-ago level. Overseas production in December was up 15.6% to 76,209 units, marking the 5th straight month of year-on-year increase. Overseas production last year decreased 1.5% to 989,449 units from calendar year 1998.
Nissan's domestic sales in December was down 11.3% to 49,292 units, posting the 4th consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. Nissan's domestic market share in December was down 1.8 points to 16.7% from December 1998. Domestic sales in calendar year 1999 decreased 14.4% over the previous year to 773,602 units. As a result, Nissan's market share declined 1.4 points from the previous year to 19.4% in calendar year 1999.
Nissan exports in December decreased 8.6% to 55,399 units, posting the 9th consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. Exports in calendar year 1999 was 654,292 units, down 7.3% from the previous year.
