Production, Domestic Sales, and Export Results for June and the First Half of 2000

Tokyo -- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its production, domestic sales and export results for June and the first half of 2000.

  1. Nissan's domestic production in the first half of 2000 totaled 679,030 units, down 1.4% from the year-ago level. Overseas production for the first half of 2000 was up 30.1% to 617,477 units. Domestic production in June recorded 122,334 units, up 8.5% from the previous year, marking the third consecutive month of year-on-year increase. Overseas production in June came to 114,879 units, up 20.7% from a year earlier. This was mainly attributed to newly launched models such as new Sentra in Mexico, the Almera in the UK and the Almera Tino in Spain.

  2. Nissan exported 307,746 units in the first half of 2000, down 4.3% from the previous year. This decrease in the first half was mainly due to the Almera for the European market, which was switched to local production in the UK from this year, as its new model was launched. Exports in June increased 10.5% to 60,128 units, posting the third consecutive month of year-on-year increase.

  3. Domestic sales in the first half of 2000 decreased 3.6% over the previous year to 388,530 units. Nissan's market share in the first half of 2000 was 18.4%, down 1.0% points from the same period of 1999. Domestic sales in June came to 61,869 units, up 0.6% from June of last year. This was the second consecutive month of year-on-year increase. However, Nissan's domestic market share fell 1.3% points to 16.5% last month.
