‘Nissan Expedition – following Brazil’s heritage trail’ stage 2 concludes

FEDERAL DISTRICT, Brazil – The second stage of "Nissan Expedition – Following Brazil's Heritage Trail" recently concluded at Chapada dos Veadeiros, the highest plain in Central Brazil, in the state of Goiás.

For three days of exciting experiences with lots of adventure and off-roading, drivers in a fleet of 16 Nissan Frontiers faced trails in the region known as Cerrado, a vast tropical savannah ecoregion in Brazil. There, the adventurers explored a stunning landscape listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site while driving more than 1,000 km in the state of Goiás and the Federal District.

The expedition started in the city of Brasília, which is considered the world's largest world heritage site (112.25 km²) and is widely known for its modernist architecture and uniquely artistic urban planning. The adventurers also visited key historic and cultural sites, such as 308 Sul, the first superquadra ("superblock") built following the Plano Piloto ("Pilot Plan," or the originally planned city), as well as the President JK Bridge and the Ministries Esplanade.

The expeditioners also visited the Live Museum of Candanga Memory, which tells the story of the construction of Brasília (named after the nickname given to the workmen who built the city) and Catetinho Museum, the first official workplace of the President of Brazil Juscelino Kubitschek, whose name is a reference to Catete, Brazil's presidential palace before Brasília was built.

On the second day, the group attended a talk at Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio, the administrative arm of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment), about the initiatives to protect the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and the region's importance to the environment. Soon after, they toured the park with its outstanding scenic beauty and followed to the region known as Almécegas, where they experienced an aerial attraction: the Flight of the Hawk – an 850-meter-long, 100-meter-high zip line that stretches across the Almécegas Range and the São Bento Plantation Belvedere. In the end of the day, they visited Almécegas, one of the park's tallest waterfalls and known for its high quartzite walls.

On the third day of the "Nissan Expedition – Following Brazil's Heritage Trail", the group had an off-roading experience through the Cerrado region, in Goiás. The adventurers put the Nissan Frontier to the test, which demonstrated it certainly deserves the fame it has for offering added technology, robustness and quality design.

After the off-roading experience at the Bellatrix reserve, the group headed for the Label waterfall, before facing more rough terrain and crossing some streams. Swollen with the summer rains, the unbridged waters have been easily crossed by the Frontier trucks, which was definitely a plus to the exciting adventure. To cap it all, the group climbed 1,200 meters to reach the São João d'Aliança range and gaze at the Cerrado region in Goiás.

"Nissan Expedition"
With a bold mission recognized both in the domestic market and overseas, the Nissan Expedition is back on the road. Now, the project continues the tradition set in the first edition: being closer to the daily lives of Brazilian consumers while promoting the Japanese brand's products with initiatives that contribute to the country. This is not about a test drive, but a theme expedition to make known Brazil's historic, natural and cultural heritage sites.

Held in 2017 and 2018, Nissan Expedition's first edition had the mission of exploring the country's rock art sites. Now, the second edition is taking explorers to follow Brazil's Heritage Trail. However, the key elements that made it successful are maintained: The adventurers are escorted by local researchers and experts while being immersed in the rich culture and traditions of the regions visited.

The innovative concept highlights the sites' cultural and historical legacy, with an immersive experience into the daily lives of the regions visited, while ensuring a true on- and off-roading adventure. As a result, Nissan Expedition has been awarded with a number of accolades, such as the 2018 ABERJE Awards, category Events, as well as a Certificate of Excellence at the SABRE Awards Latin America 2018. A book that summarizes the first edition has just been recognized with the ABERJE 2019 award, in the category Special Publication.
