X‑TRAIL Undergoes Minor Model Change

Tokyo -- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced the domestic release of the new X‑TRAIL following the execution of a minor model change.

The current refinements have enhanced the convenience and everyday utility of the X‑TRAIL, enabling the vehicle to be used even more strenuously than before for a variety of outdoor sports and activities. The X‑TRAIL adopts a pop-up steering column, with a maximum tilt angle of 45 degrees that substantially expands the effective space of the driver's seat, and comes with a multipurpose luggage net that allows ready use of the versatile luggage bay for various tasks. The floor now has a water repellent treatment, in addition to the luggage board, seats and ceiling as in the previous model. This treatment allows water or dirt to be wiped off easily for greater convenience.

On the exterior, the grille, front bumper, aluminum wheels and rear bumper, among other parts, are all newly restyled. In addition, optional Hyper Roof Rails are now available that integrate the three functions of driving lamps, roof rails and roof bars.

Inside, the shape of the instrument panel has been changed to enhance the high-quality ambience of the interior. Convenience features have also been expanded by adopting an upper glove box, auxiliary ventilation for the driver's face, cooled and heated cup holders and a large multipurpose console box with heating and cooling capabilities.

A standard feature on the GT grade model is Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), incorporating four-wheel electronically controlled braking that provides a limited slip differential (LSD) capability for enhanced traction. This VDC system facilitates surefooted start-off acceleration not only on slippery road surfaces, but also where there is a mixture of icy and normal surfaces.

Models fitted with the NEO QR20DE engine are certified as ultra-low emission vehicles (U-LEVs)^*1 under the low-emission vehicle certification system of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. They also qualify for tax reductions^*2 under the Green Tax program by complying with Japan's 2010 fuel economy standards.

^*1Vehicles certified as U-LEVs under the low-emission vehicle certification system of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions by an additional 75% from the levels required by Japan's 2000 exhaust emission regulations. This system was inaugurated in April 2000 to encourage the penetration of low-emission vehicles through their selection by ordinary consumers.

^*2For vehicles complying with the requirements of the Green Tax program, the automobile acquisition tax on newly registered vehicles for personal use is reduced by 15,000 yen until March 31, 2004, and for U-LEVs the automobile tax is reduced by 50% for one year beginning from the next fiscal year after a vehicle is registered. (These measures do not apply to the vehicles handled by Autech Japan, Inc.)

In conjunction with this minor model change of the X‑TRAIL, Nissan plans to revise the rates system of its CARWINGS telematics service. CompassLink Lite for human operator-based information and assistance service will be changed from the present pay-per-use basis to a flat-rate fee system for unlimited use as of July 1, which, along with other improvements, will make the service easier for drivers to use.
