Tatsuzo Tomita was appointed chief of total delivered cost (TdC) transformation at Nissan in April 2025, leading initiatives to optimize monozukuri cost. In addition to this role, he is also responsible for vehicle planning and vehicle component engineering. He takes a holistic view covering parts procurement, development, manufacturing and logistics, with a goal to identify new opportunities for cost transformation while enhancing the attractiveness of Nissan vehicles.
Throughout his career, Tomita has specialized in vehicle engineering, serving as chief vehicle engineer for a wide range of models, including the Kicks, Versa and Juke. Two projects stand out in his memory. The first was a joint development initiative with Daimler, where he and the team bridged cultural and procedural differences through deep technical discussions and mutual respect, with a shared goal of building an exceptional car. The second was the launch of the Versa in Mexico, a project that required coordination across Mexico, the United States and Japan. Despite the challenges of working across multiple locations, the team successfully advanced the project through a shared sense of trust and collaboration. Both projects demonstrated the power of clear objectives and strong alignment in overcoming linguistic, geographic and operational hurdles.
Tomita emphasizes the importance of taking the first step. He believes fear of failure often holds people back, but once we move forward, collaboration and support pave the way to meaningful achievements. Even when outcomes fall short, he sees value in every experience and encourages his team to embrace challenges. For Tomita, continuous effort and a willingness to take on new challenges are the keys to success.
Tomita holds a master's degree in aeronautics from the University of Tokyo.
