Safari Undergoes Minor Model Change

Now Featuring a NEO Di Direct-Injection Diesel Engine, Winner of the FY 1998 "Sho-Ene Taisho"(The Energy Conservation Prize)

Tokyo - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced the domestic release of the new Safari following the implementation of a minor model change.

Among the improvements made this time, the 2-door Hardtop is now fitted with the 3.0-liter ZD30DDTi direct-injection diesel engine that was awarded the FY 1998 Sho-Ene Taisho (The Energy Conservation Prize) <Commendation from the Chairman of the Energy Conservation Center, Japan>*1. This outstanding engine enables the Safari to deliver greater power, consume less fuel and emit a lower level of carbon dioxide (CO2) than the previous model. It incorporates Nissan's unique Modulated Fire (M-Fire) combustion system that simultaneously reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and black smoke while operating with remarkable quietness.

*1This prize is given under a system sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) to commend equipment and system for household and commercial use that demonstrate outstanding energy conservation performance.

All models come with a redesigned radiator grille and a body-colored bumper overrider which give the exterior a premium-quality look and a strong sense of stability. In addition, three attractive new colors have been added to the body color selection.

The interior has an enhanced image of superb quality and provides greater comfort, thanks to the changes made to the seat fabric design and seat shape, expanded use of handsome wood-grain panel trim and the addition of a longitudinal adjustment function to the head restraints. In the area of equipment features, a keyless remote control entry system is standard on all models. Moreover, standard appointments on the Granroad Limited include genuine leather-covered power seats for the driver and front passenger.

Improved safety performance has also been vigorously pursued, such as through the adoption of a one-touch driver's power window with a water-resistant switch system. This window incorporates a mechanism to prevent fingers and arms from being caught during one-touch operation by automatically reversing the direction and lowering the window.

All Safari models are now equipped with a rear limited slip differential (LSD) as a standard feature for improved driving performance.

The Safari lineup has also been further expanded by newly adding a 4-door Van model that is available in two trim grades.

Price Range and Sales Target
The new Safari is priced in a range from 3,102,000 yen to 4,152,000 yen.
Nissan projects a monthly sales volume of 150 units.
