NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan topped three vehicle segments in the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). J.D. Power IQS is the industry benchmark for new vehicle quality by measuring the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PPH) during the first 90 days of ownership, with a lower score reflecting higher quality.

Overall in 2020 Nissan ranked 5th among mass market brands, five points ahead of industry average with a ranking of 161.

For 2020, the Nissan Maxima, produced at Nissan's Vehicle Assembly plant in Smyrna, Tennessee was the top-rated Large Car for the third consecutive year with a score of 121 PPH. The Nissan Murano, produced at Nissan's Canton Mississippi Vehicle Assembly plant ranked highest in the Midsize SUV segment with 134 PPH. The Nissan Armada, produced by Nissan in Japan, took top honors in the Large SUV segment with 115 PPH.

"We are focused on delivering exciting vehicles to customers around the world with a focus on quality and craftsmanship that will deliver even higher levels of customer satisfaction," said Steve Marsh, senior vice president, manufacturing, supply chain management and purchasing, Nissan North America, Inc. "Initial quality is one important metric for our manufacturing team's performance, and the pursuit of excellence across the Nissan lineup never stops."

Nissan's good news went beyond vehicle nameplates. An assembly line at its six-million square-foot Smyrna Vehicle Assembly plant, the largest auto manufacturing plant by production volume in North America, ranked fifth in quality performance among North American manufacturing facilities (only 3 PPH from the top spot). This line produces the Nissan Rogue and Pathfinder SUVs.
