Nissan Motor Company (President: Carlos Ghosn; Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) announced today a donation to the Chinese government totaling RMB 1.5 million (approximately JPY 22.5 million) to assist its battle against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Of the RMB 1.5 million, RMB 1 million (approximately JPY 15 million) will be contributed to the People's Republic of China Ministry of Health, and a further RMB 0.5 million (approximately JPY 7.5 million) will go to the Beijing Municipal Government.
The donation has been made to China, a country which has suffered greatly from the SARS epidemic, in the hope that it will help to quickly suppress the outbreak.
Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co., Ltd, Nissan's existing affiliate in China, is donating four authentic Paladin SUVs and a bus (worth a total of 1.3 million yuan, or around 19.5 million yen) to local governments (Zhengzhou City on May 10, Henan Province on May 15) as part of the fight against SARS.
