Terrano and Terrano Regulus Undergo Minor Model Change
Now Featuring a NEO Di Direct-Injection Diesel Engine, Winner of
the FY 1998 gSho-Ene Taishoh(The Energy Conservation Prize)

Tokyo ] Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced the domestic release of the new Terrano and Terrano Regulus following the implementation of a minor model change.

(left) Terrano R3m-X with 3.0-Liter Intercooled Direct-Injection Turbo Diesel (fitted with optional equipment)
(right) Terrano Regulus RS-R Limited with 3.3-Liter V6 Gasoline Engine

As part of this minor model change, both the Terrano and the Terrano Regulus are now fitted with the newly developed 3.0-liter ZD30DDTi NEO Di direct-injection diesel engine, winner of the FY 1998 gSho-Ene Taishoh(The Energy Conservation Prize)<Commendation from the Chairman of the Energy Conservation Center, Japan>*1. This impressive engine delivers outstanding driving performance by generating maximum power of 170 PS/3,600 rpm and maximum torque of 36.0 kg-m/1,800 rpm to provide class-leading output among domestic passenger car diesel engines displacing less than 4.0 liters. Compared with the previous diesel-engine models, fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are both further reduced. In addition, this award-winning engine incorporates Nissanfs unique new Modulated Fire (M-Fire) combustion system to achieve an unprecedented level of operating quietness previously unattainable with conventional diesel combustion systems. Simultaneously, M-Fire combustion also suppresses the generation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and black smoke, which have invariably occurred with compression ignition. Moreover, interior quietness has been markedly improved by adopting an electronically controlled engine mount, among other measures.

*1This prize is given under a system sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) to commend equipment and systems for household and commercial use that demonstrate outstanding energy conservation performance.

The Terrano also features an all-new appearance for a more powerful and advanced look, while the interior has been improved in a variety of ways to ensure greater convenience and enhance the impression of stellar quality. Moreover, the lineup has been further expanded with the establishment of the new sporty-looking R3m-X Aero Limited Package models and the addition of 2WD models. Vigorous steps have also been taken to improve safety performance.

The Terrano Regulus features an improved interior for greater convenience and an enhanced look of premium quality as well as improved safety performance.

Overview of New Terrano and Terrano Regulus
1. Powered by a NEO Di direct-injection diesel engine, winner of the FY 1998gSho-Ene Taishoh (The Energy Conservation Prize)
< Commendation from the Chairman of the ECCJ )
Both the Terrano and the Terrano Regulus are now available with Nissanfs new ZD30DDTi NEO Di engine, a 3.0-liter intercooled direct-injection turbo diesel. This remarkable engine adopts a 4-valve DOHC design for improved combustion performance, a variable nozzle turbocharger for quicker response and a high-pressure fuel injection pump for better fuel atomization. These improvements enable the engine to deliver class-leading maximum power (170 PS/3,600 rpm) and maximum torque (36.0 kg-m/1,800 rpm) for superlative driving performance. The ZD30DDTi NEO Di engine also incorporates Nissanfs proprietary M-Fire combustion system, comprising optimized fuel injection timing, the use of heavy exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and the generation of powerful swirl. Compared with the previous diesel-engine models, this advanced combustion system reduces particulate matter (PM) by approximately 60% while substantially lowering NOx emissions at the same time. Both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have also been further reduced. Moreover, the adoption of an electronically controlled engine amount and other noise reduction measures has significantly improved interior quietness.

2. Completely new exterior and interior
The front and side views of the Terrano have been completely reworked to project a more powerful image. This involved adopting a sharper-looking front bumper, front fenders that accentuate the carfs wide impression, a hood that conveys a sense of volume and restyled 16-inch aluminum wheels, among other styling cues. The rear view also gives the impression of an eminently refined design, thanks to the sense of volume imparted by the newly styled back door panel and rear bumper and the premium-quality look of the high-brightness rear combination lamps.

On the inside, both the Terrano and the Terrano Regulus provide an ambience of enhanced quality. This is created by the stellar-quality look of the center instrument cluster and console panel, the multifunction AV system incorporating a motor-driven pop-up LCD monitor (optional on all models excluding the R3m-V grade) and the sports-type three-spoke steering wheel, among other features. In addition, convenience has been improved in numerous ways, such as by positioning the parking brake lever closer to the driver and by discontinuing the previous transfer lever on 4WD models in favor of an all-mode dial switch that includes a function for switching between the high and low ranges.

The Terrano comes in a choice of five attractive body colors, including the newly available Ocean Blue M/ Sonic Silver M Two-Tone and Turquoise M/ Sonic Silver M Two-Tone. The Terrano Regulus offers a body color selection of four handsome colors, including the newly added Greenish Silver M. (The letter M signifies Metallic.)

3. Expanded Terrano lineup
The newly established R3m-X grade includes models equipped with the Aero Limited Package, consisting of exclusive body stripes that change colors depending on the viewing angle and dedicated roof spoiler, aero-form front bumper, fog lamps and suede-looking seat coverings. The lineup has also been further expanded with the addition of 2WD gasoline-engine models. All of the newly added models are fitted with a sporty suspension with enhanced damping performance for higher levels of handling and stability.

4. Enhanced safety and environmental friendliness
The Terrano and the Terrano Regulus both provide enhanced safety performance as a result of incorporating a host of safety features in line with Nissan's Triple Safety concept. Vigorous steps have also been taken to improve environmental friendliness.

<Improved safety performance>
Major safety technologies featured on the Terrano and Terrano Regulus
Information safety features for forewarning the driver of potential danger
Xenon projector headlamps (low beam with levelizer)
Control safety features for avoiding potential danger
Braking Assist
Impact safety features for helping reduce injury
High-strength Zone Body construction
Side airbag supplemental restraint systems (SRS) for driver and front passenger
Front seatbelts with load limiters and pretensioners

<Enhanced environmental friendliness>
The new 3.0-liter ZD30DDTi NEO Di intercooled direct-injection turbo diesel engine, recipient of the FY 1998 gSho-Ene Taishoh(The Energy Conservation Prize)<Commendation from the Chairman of the ECCAJapan> features Nissan's unique M-Fire combustion system that reduces PM emissions by approximately 60% while also lowering NOx emissions substantially compared with the previous diesel-engine models. In addition, it also cuts both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

An oxygen catalyst for diesel engines has been adopted to reduce HC, CO and PM emissions.
Extended oil change interval
The recommended interval for changing the engine oil has been extended from the previous standard of every 5,000 km to every 15,000 km, thereby reducing the quantity of waste oil.

Adoption of Nissanfs Eco-filter
Conventional oil filters are constructed such that the metal case and paper filter are integrated, which results in a greater amount of waste when the oil filter is changed. Further, it means that waste oil inside the filter is also thrown away. In contrast, Nissanfs Eco-filter allows the paper filter alone to be changed, and used filters can be disposed of as burnable waste.

Adoption of recyclable metal gaskets
The intake system is now fitted with recyclable metal gaskets in place of the previously used carbon gaskets.
